The Shrine of North America and its official philanthropy. Shriners Hospitals for Children. have long enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship. The Shrine. as a fraternity of Masons. has received tremendous community recognition and appreciation for its unique network of children's hospitals; and Shriners Hospitals benefit in countless ways from the support of the 550.000 Shriners throughout North America

In addition to their own fraternal fund raisers. Shrine Temples. or chapters. often conduct fund-raising events to benefit Shriners Hospitals. When a fund-raiser is a charitable fund-raiser. 100 percent of the net proceeds go to the hospitals. Charitable fund-raisers held by Shriners raise approximately $12 million a year for Shriners Hospitals. One of the best known of the Shrine's varied and numerous charitable fund raisers is the annual East-West Shrine Bowl Game. which has been played every year since 1925 at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto. Calif. Throughout its history. the game has netted more than $14 million for Shriners Hospitals.


The fraternity benefits the charity in many other ways. as well. Members of the Shrine spend many hours of their own time driving patients and their parents to the hospitals and entertaining the patients. They also work as volunteers in various areas of the hospitals. speak to community groups about the free medical care available at Shriners Hospitals. and work to promote the hospitals and find patients in many different ways. Each Shriner also pays an annual $5 assessment to the hospitals each year. in addition to his fraternal dues.


Shriners are justifiably proud of Shriners Hospitals and dedicated to supporting their mission. The two organizations are inextricably linked in the minds of many: The World's Greatest Fraternity supporting the World's Greatest Philanthropy.
